After months of preparation/discussions/arguments, MACA Holiday Party finally came and contrary to outgoing President, Engr. Eddie Salcedo's prediction of doom, we had a  great time and even made some money. He was so worried that we will end up paying out-of-pocket to cover the hotel/catering bills. "Aida, bring your checkbook or even  better, bring cash" exclaimed Cugie Dela Santa. With a hotel bill of over $5K, Kuya Amba Solomon sent his communique's with "So help me God." That was how worried he and Kuya Eddie were about our party. At the end, we just said, as long as we have fun, we won't mind it very much if we, (the officers) will each contribute to make up the difference, luckily, Kuya Amba said (sagot niya) that he will cover whatever we would owe the hotel (that is why he kept saying "So help me God.")

The amalgamation of venue, music, food, friends/guests and organizational skills of MACA Officers and members made this event a successful one.
I dare anyone to think otherwise.

Marinduquenos of the Capital Area's "Paskohan at Sayawan" 2010 was held at the Holiday Inn, College Park. It was a perfect site for the number of guests we have. The festive decorations that adorned the ballroom and the reception area added warmth and a positive atmosphere appreciated by our guests. Thanks to Cugie dela Santa, Blanca & Sam Ho for taking time to secure the venue on my behalf.

Great music, thanks to Julian Oteyza and the Tutubi Band who rocked the house with their brilliant rendition of the 70's and 80's music. Moy Solomon was in disco heaven! Our young guests, surprisingly, enjoyed dancing to the soulful beat of Santana, Earth Wind and Fire and Lionel Richie, to name a few of the artists whose wonderful music was made current and relevant by the Tutubi Band. No line dancing! Next time, we have to request line dancing music for our very own Dr. and Mrs. Manuel Sevilla. They love to demonstrate their expertise and talent in line dancing. Everyone enjoyed the music that even my friend Kevin Owens got up and danced. That was truly an amazing sight to see for a couple of years ago, we did not think he would recover from his stroke. Thanks to our ever generous Cugie dela Santa, for without his special connection with the Tutubi Band, we would have not been able to afford to hire the band.

Sumptuous buffet was chosen by me with the blessing of Kuya Eddie Salcedo. The food preparation and presentation was great, thanks to Holiday Inn College Park staff, especially to Cynthia Ramsay, catering manager. She was a real trooper, who did not mind us changing our menus for the party a couple of times.

Wonderful friends/guests, what else can we ask for. They came dressed in their holiday best; even our own Moy Solomon was not wearing blue jeans. Without the support of our loyal friends and families, we would not have as much fun and be able to raise much needed funds for our projects. Thanks for your continued support and hope to see you all in our party next year.

It was a privilege to have within our midst the Honorable Kris Valderrama of Maryland 26th Legislative District. Thanks to Kris for officiating the Induction Ceremony, she made it official. Our very own Consul and Minister of Legislative Affairs Ariel Penaranda and his beautiful wife, Rowena, graced us with their presence, though they could not stay for the entire duration of the party. They were event-hopping because there were several parties going on that night in the Fil-Am community.

"Putong" the highlight of our event was truly appreciated by our guests. It amazes me that although we perform this every year, we still have not memorized the lyrics and the dance steps. Our guests did not realize that we (the dancers) kept pausing for our singers really messed up. It was fun, nonetheless. I hope we perform better the next time around.

Happy New Year!!!
Raffle and door prizes - this year was a flat screen TV and a GPS System. Thanks to Kuya Eddie and Tina for purchasing them and many thanks to Moy Solomon for preparing the Ads and tickets. He has truly become an expert in printing tickets. If I am not mistaken, I think we sold over $2,000.00 worth of raffle tickets. Thanks to all who brought some items for door prizes. It was nice to see the appreciation on the faces of our guests when they win a prize.

Everyone at the party had a great time, except for Kuya Amba Solomon (did not join the festivities until the bill was paid for). He just could not leave his laptop alone (busy accounting for all the monies needed to pay the hotel bill). Contrary to what Kuya Amba thought, (that we were disorganized) everyone commented us on how well organized we were. Even Santa forgot to distribute the gifts to the children for he was having too much fun. Our guests asked to be invited back for the next MACA party. Yours truly, the newly inducted MACA President, forgot to make the closing remarks, (busy entertaining guests) to thank everyone for attending our event and hope that they enjoyed themselves. I do think that Kuya Amba enjoyed the party as well and had a sigh of relief after the bill was paid in full.

Planning an event takes time, effort and teamwork in any organization. I am proud to say that MACA Officers and Members, though few in numbers, is a cohesive group that time and time again, has proven that with teamwork, success can be achieved. The Marinduque of the Capital Area's "Paskohan and Sayawan" 2010 was a great success! Thanks to all MACA Officers and members and their families. Thanks to Ate Ruby Solomon for her delectable desserts and to Dall Solomon for the many ways she can prepare pancit. Especial thanks goes to Ate Chita and Kuya Eddie Salcedo for hosting the monthly meeting at their home and feeding us.
